Burlesque is a type of adult entertainment that dates back to the early 1900’s and is a style of entertainment that combines, music, theatre, dance and often a sexy strip tease. A few popular burlesque-style entertainers today are Dita Von Teese, The Pussycat Dolls and Indigo Blue, and amateur burlesque groups are popping up in just about every city across the US. Even mainstream entertainers like Britney Spears and Katy Perry have added a burlesque style to their performances. Personally, I think the glamour and flirtiness of burlesque is a breathe of fresh air following on the heels of the overtly sexed up (dare we say “slutty”?) 90’s and early 2000’s.

As with all trends, this burlesque resurgence has started to pop up in fashion and is coming out full-force in a lot of 2010 lingerie lines. Think, bustle skirts, tasseled pasties, fringe, sequins, waist cinching corsets and feathered garter belts. Burlesque is bringing a bit of Vaudeville and theatrical fun to lingerie, and this style is not for your run of the mill wallflower. These new styles are for the fun, sexy & flirty women that likes to be the center of attention.

I love how this burlesque trend is reviving the fashionable side of lingerie! (Am I the only one that was bored with lingerie color choices limited to black, red and white?) These new vintage-inspired pieces are given a modern touch with bold new colors, fun patterns and a bevy of feminine accents like ruffles, satin bows, rhinestones and tassels.
